textures in stone

Today's blog is about textures.  These textures are all in stone and are either from buildings I photographed while traveling in Europe or from the sarsen stones at Avebury and Stonehenge, in Wiltshire, England.  I love to photograph lots of different architecture and building materials when I travel to foreign countries.

These bricks were in Bath, England on the exterior of The Baths

This beautiful scroll pattern is in the stonework of a building in Rhodes, Greece

Stones on the path to Philopappos Hill in Athens, Greece - the best view of the Acropolis

This photo is of one of the more than 99 sarsen stones that create the largest stone circle in Europe, in Avebury, England

This detailed stonework was on a building in Cardiff, Wales

This stonework was also in Cardiff, Wales

This is the Heel Stone at Stonehenge, made of sarsen stone that was brought from Wales over 6000 years ago

These are a few of the sarsen stones at Stonehenge. This photo was taken from inside the stone circle at the Summer Solstice of 2005

This beautiful building is in Venice, Italy. Besides textures there are the most incredible detailed carvings in the stone.
