3 Favorite Websites - 2nd Site for Review - dailymail.co.uk

Site #2:
dailymail.co.uk

1. I like this site because one of my secret passions is UK gossip!!! The site keeps me in touch with the latest English gossip as well as giving me more in-depth gossip about American stars.  Because the laws are different there, they can print the most unsubstantiated, undocumented filth and sensational lies and speculations.  It's trashy in a way that most American websites don't even strive for, so it makes for incredibly interesting reading.
2. The site is basically a white background with images for many of the top stories, with blue selections for sections of the online magazine to mimick what is in the newsstand copy.
3.  The size of type depends on the 'size' of the headline. The bigger and more shocking the gossip, the bigger the title line.  They pack an amazing amount of information on the page in a simple arrangement that allows you to select the story you want to read more of from a column of blurbs and teasers.
4.  The header design is simple, they use advertising banners across part and normally a scantily clad photo of whoever the leading star is in the news recently, or who is vacationing in various hot spots in Europe, or who has been arrested.
5.  The overall color scheme is very simple. Besides photographs the type is simply blue, black or white.
6.  The target audience for this site is anyone with a love for tabloids, speculation and insight into relationships of footballers and their wives/mistresses.  Also people who follow pop culture in the UK which is a mix of Welsch, Irish, British and Scottish stars - both actual and reality stars, and LOTTO winners.  Many of these people do not have fame in America - but they also cover all our top stars, and write the gossip our tabloids dont dare publish. Additionally, they offer advice columns, human interest stories - an example being a story about a man found alive in Japan weeks after the tsunami and about a Russian zoo and some bears that live there.  I'm always amazed at the range of stories and cultures they include.
7.  This site definitely is based on a grid structure, see the screenshots below which highlight the numerous articles and one of the longest scroll-down home pages I have ever experienced:

8. There are no animation or special effects used on the site, just lots of thumbnails to go with the teasers.
9.  After looking at this site as a designer, I am even more amazed at how much information they fit on their site in a relatively easy to read and navigate format.  If there were more colors or less of a grid pattern, I know it would just be overwhelming.  So actually I have more of an appreciation for the way it's put together.
