churches in Tasmania, Australia

This is the church at the Port Arthur Prison. Because the prisoners were in solitary confinement, they were not allowed to come into contact with each other. Therefore each prisoner was in their own 'box', approximately 5' tall and approximately 18" square, where they would stand for the entire service, able to see each other but not touch each other.  I found the writing on the wall to be particularly powerful considering the horrific, brutal conditions in the waterfront prison.
