In my last post I mentioned the Domesday Book when talking about Corfe Castle. I did a little reading to find out more about this 'book.' Completed in 1086 for William I of England (William the Conquerer), it was considered a 'Day of Judgement' for landowners for most areas of England and parts of Wales. They recorded how much land and livestock each landowner had, and how much it was worth as a means for knowing 'where the King should look when funds were needed'.
